Biking Near Pilot Cove

Transylvania County is the premier cycling destination in the Southeastern United States. With some of the nation’s most sought-after mountain biking singletrack, gravel US Forest Service roads, and miles of paved country backroads road to cover, the mountains of Western North Carolina offer diverse terrain and riding opportunities for all experience levels.

Mountain Biking

Pisgah National Forest offers riding opportunities that range from easy to difficult, depending on your skill level. Please note that most Pisgah National Forest trails are technical, and best for intermediate or advanced riders. Among the most popular bike trails near Pilot Cove are Thrift Cove Trail, Black Mountain Trail, North Slope Trail, Sycamore Cove Trail, Avery Creek Trail, Bennett Gap Trail, the Bracken Mountain trail system, and the gentle bike path along the Davidson River. Longer, epic options exist when you use these trails as connectors, giving you opportunities to explore deep into the National Forest.

Additionally, nearby DuPont State Recreational Forest offers nearly 100 miles of machine-built, mixed-use trail options – these trails are renowned for being fast and flowy! In general, DuPont State Recreational Forest and the Bracken Mountain Trail System offer better opportunities for beginners than trails in Pisgah National Forest.

Whether you are a beginner or expert, Transylvania County has a variety of options for your perfect mountain biking getaway.
