Asheville Must See: Spring Blooms at Biltmore

Spring is here! Temperatures are climbing, trees are leafing out, and flowers are blooming. An excellent way to celebrate and experience Spring is to visit the Biltmore Estate for their garden bloom displays. March
Witch hazels begin blooming across the estate. Other blooms include early-season daffodils, Lenten rose (Hellebore), snowdrops, hyacinth, Japanese pieris, spirea, winter jasmine, Cornelian cherry dogwood, and white and black pussy willow. Inside the Conservatory, tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinth, and a stunning collection of orchids are at peak bloom.
April
Tulips and daffodils can be seen at the estate’s entrance, in the Walled Garden, and in Antler Village. Other blooms include Redbuds, Serviceberry, and Flowering dogwoods, as well as Quince, Viburnum, and Fothergilla in the gardens near Biltmore House. The Azalea Garden begins to bloom.
May
Mountain laurels and Catawba hybrid rhododendrons are in full bloom along Approach Road and within the gardens. Other blooms include Kousa dogwood, Sweetshrub, Mock orange, Yellowwood, and Fringe trees. The Rose Garden reaches peak bloom, spring annuals and American wisteria bloom along the east wall, and Peony, False indigo, and Iris color the Walled Garden.
June
A variety of Hydrangeas and pollinator-friendly Abelia are in bloom throughout the gardens, in Antler Hill Village, and at The Inn. Other blooms include perennials within the Walled Garden and smaller beds across the Shrub Garden. The weather has warmed up enough for the tropical plants to move outside from the greenhouses.
July
Hundreds of sunflowers are in full bloom in Antler Hill Village. Other blooms include Hydrangeas, Crepe myrtles, Butterfly bush, Vitex, and Sourwood. In the Conservatory, the gardeners have created tropical displays featuring Palms, Banana, Bromeliads, Begonia, Ginger, Plumeria, and Tropical hibiscus.
August
Summer annuals are in full bloom, and in the Italian Garden you will find a water lily display. Other blooms include Hydrangeas and Abelia throughout the Shrub Garden as well as Crepe myrtle, Vitex, and Butterfly bushes.
